People interested in participating are advised to not wear high heels or similar footwear, as they may find it difficult to walk on the wire grid flooring of the anechoic chambers. Unfortunately, we regret that people who require wheelchair access will be unable to participate in certain sections of the tour, nor will service animals be permitted inside the lab.

The Aalto Acoustics Lab has outstanding facilities for sound-related research. Aalto Acoustics Lab houses three anechoic chambers (built in 1970; renovated in 2019), a variable acoustics room (built in 2019), a listening test room, which meets the standards of subjective audio testing (built in 1999), and three independent sound-insulated booths for headphone listening tests (built in 2011).

The anechoic chambers were renovated during 2017-2019, and were reopened for use in December 2019. The modern design is both more efficient than traditional techniques in terms of the use of space and absorption at low frequencies. The renovation also saw the overhaul of the reverberation chamber, which was turned into the varechoic chamber in use to

On the tour, visitors have the opportunity to:
• Visit the anechoic chambers
• Experience the variable acoustics room
• Listen to demonstrations of various research conducted at the lab, such as sound scene reproduction in the multichannel chamber
