This walk introduces visitors to the housing area of Hepokalliontie, built in the 1950s. With natural surroundings by the sea, this area is representative of early industrial construction, and the spirit of voluntary work, typical to the reconstruction period. There are 38 type houses designed by the architect Toivo Jäntti and constructed from pre-fabricated wooden elements produced by the Puutalo company. This same company was also responsible for the plan of the area including services (electricity, plumbing, roads) and the arrangement of so-called Arava loans, which the state provided for individual builders. The houses were built by the future inhabitants themselves, with help of the instructions provided by Puutalo.
